Made in Japan Stop Go Cop wind up toy

For your consideration is this late 1930’s, early 1940’s, made in Japan tin and celluloid wind up toy Traffic Cop.  The theme on the lithographed base depicts a speeding car being chased by a motorcycle cop, and then the car being stopped and the driver’s subsequent appearance before a judge.  This tin wind up toy is in outstanding condition and it’s working very well.  Please note a small hole in the celluloid of the officer’s head just below his right ear and he may possibly be missing the very tip of his baton.  The strings in the jointed Policeman are tight and allow his arms and legs to be posed.  When wound the small bell rings while the Policeman and the Stop / Go sign will both rotate a half turn to one side, then the other and back again repeatedly. The Trademark on the base is the letter Y centered in a red shield form with the words “Trade” & “Mark” on either side of it (see close up photo),  also printed is “Made in Japan” & “Patent Applied for”.  We were not able to identify the maker or exactly when the toy was made.  This early Japanese tin and celluloid wind up toy traffic cop measures 7” to the top of the sign and the base at the bottom measures 5” in width and 3” in depth. This toy is similar to the prewar “Go Stop” toy made byAlps, which some refer to as the “Safety First” toy. We researched our toy extensively and could not find another example, leading us to believe that it is quite rare.  This rare tin and celluloid wind up toy would make a great addition to any antique toy collection!
