A truly wonderful Roullet & Decamps clockwork walking automaton Bulldog.  This perky puppy is possibly the best example of this automaton we've ever had for sale.  This Bulldog automaton appears in the 1878 Roullet and Decamps Catalog which is shown on page 282 in the book by Christian Bailly titled Automata THE GOLDEN AGE.  When wound the dog will walk forward turning its head to the left and back to center as it moves along.  The dog is made of papier-mache with glass eyes and a leather covering featuring a wonderful hand colored face.  The lever between its rear legs stops and starts the action and a well-fitting winding key will be included in the sale.  The dog is all original including the often missing collar and harness, even one of the little brass bells (one bell is missing) and name plate remain on the harness.  This darling little bulldog is simply an all-around exemplary example with only minor soiling from handling.  This cunning canine measures 10" in length and about 9" in height.  If you only want the best for your collection then we have him here waiting for you! PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AS WELL AS WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS ADORABLE EARLY ROULLET et DECAMPS AUTOMATON.
