Roullet & Decamps clockwork walking and meowing cat automaton made in Paris, France in the early 1900’s.  This adorable automaton cat is in outstanding condition. The original fur on this cat is some of the very best we've seen with only minor loss and yellowing. She is completely original except for the nose which is a well made replacement as is the pink ribbon.  The cat has three movements including "walking" feet, opening mouth, wagging tail, and a set of bellows inside making a meowing sound.  The cat is made with a molded paper mache body and head, also known as "carton" which is covered with soft natural rabbit fur.  It has green glass eyes and a composition lower jaw with "teeth".  The automaton functions well and when wound the cat will move all four legs in a walking motion, the mouth will open and close while it wags its’ tail and emits a "meow" from the bellows inside when the mouth opens. Be sure to watch the video above to see her in action!  On the bottom of each leg is a small rubber wheel that the cat walks on.  Hidden under the tail is the on/off lever that works well.  The winding key is not the original but it fits very well.  This is a very impressive size cat measuring about 20” from tip of tail (in the outstretched position) to tip of her nose and standing about 10 ½” high to the tip of her ears.   If you collect animal automata or are a cat lover, this darling kitten is for you!  PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AS WELL AS WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS WONDERFUL ROULLET et DECAMPS WALKING CAT AUTOMATON.
