We are pleased to offer for your consideration this very rare large scale all original Roullet and Decamps Clockwork Rabbit Drummer Automaton from our own collection.  We believe this automaton to have been made sometime in the late 1800's.  The impressive rabbit stands approximately 16 1/2" to the top of his head, not counting his ears which are approximately 4"long!  The drum is approximately 5 3/4" in diameter and overall the rabbit and the drum together are approximately 11" front to back.  This is a fantastic automaton rabbit!  He makes us smile every time we wind him up because he appears so real as he taps his drumsticks on his drum, perks up his ears as he turns his head to the right to look at you as if asking your approval, wiggles his ears at you, then turns his head back to stare straight ahead dropping his ears back down, all the while tapping away on his drum.  Be sure to watch the videos above to see how adorable this drumming bunny is!  He has a strong clockwork motor and functions very well.  He repeats these motions until he winds down or you turn him off by pushing in the fixed brass pin in the center of his back.  The original brass key is present.  The fur on the rabbit is real rabbit fur and is wonderfully soft; it has yellowed/darkened with age making for a great patina!  The rabbit has his original brown glass eyes with his left eye having a bit of surface flaking.  His hands and feet are made of wood and retain most of their original paint.  There is a very old small chip on the bottom back of his left foot.  The wire in his left ear is visible at the very tip where a small bit of fur is missing.  The drum, in original paint, is constructed of a leather covered bent wood mid section and steel top and bottom rims.  On the rims are loops that hold the stretcher pins for tightening the drum skins.  The drum skins are made of real animal skins.  The stretcher pins are held in place with the original four fancy large wing nuts.  The bottom skin of the drum has an additional band across like a snare.  This drum is constructed just like a real drum and sounds like it too!  The only damage to the drum is on the bottom skin; it has a bit of edge damage and a small split at the rim.  The damage is not visible unless you turn the rabbit upside down.  The painted wooden drum sticks appear to be original and are in great shape.  This impressive rabbit displays very well, with the size and appearance of a real (big) rabbit playing a drum...loudly!  This is truly a rare and wonderful Roullet and Decamps automaton and is one of the best we have ever had the pleasure of owning!  It also appears on the cover of our e-book, Antique Automata: Magical Mechanical Animals And People 1870 - 1930.  Don't miss this opportunity to add this charming rabbit automaton to your automata collection!  PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AND USE THE ENLARGE AND ZOOM FEATURES AS WELL AS WATCH THE VIDEOS ABOVE FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS EARLY AND RARE ROULLET et DECAMPS AUTOMATON.
