Distler Strong Man clockwork toy

We are pleased to offer for sale a very rare and early lithographed tin wind up toy manufactured by Johann Distler in Nuremberg Germany circa 1915.  This Strong Man clown mechanical toy is constructed entirely of tin with a detailed and colorful lithographed paint finish.  The paint has been varnished over a long time ago (varnish was often used to save the original finish from falling off).  Once wound, the clown bends forward and places his mouth over the handle of the weight, he then appears to grip the 100 lbs./kg. weight with his teeth, picking it up in his mouth.  He stands straight up with the weight in his mouth then bends over and sets the weight back on the table.  He stands upright again without the weight and he then bends down to pick up the weight again starting the cycle over.  The paint on the top of his legs has been touched up at the solder joint but other than that the rest of the litho paint on this marvelous weightlifter is all original.  The toy is not marked and we have only found it four or five other times and even once in the box but the label only stated "Made in Germany".  Most often we have found this toy referred to as being made by Distler.   Our jovial Strong Man measures about 8" in height when fully upright and his platform is 5 3/4" in length and 4" in width.  This rare tin toy will make a treasured addition to any tin wind up toy collection.  PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AND USE THE ENLARGE AND ZOOM FEATURES FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS EARLY CLOCKWORK DISTLER TOY FROM GERMANY.
