We are pleased to offer for sale a 1949 Les Jouets Creation "Madam Crainquebille, The Orange Merchant".  She is a wind up tin and composite toy.  "Les Jouets Creation" translates to "Creative Toys" and this toy company was in business in Paris France from 1940 till 1953. This wonderful toy depicts a character found in the book "L'Affaire Crainquebille" written in 1901 by the famous French author, Anatole France. When wound Madam Crainquebille will walk forward moving both feet to advance her cart full of oranges. The paint is in nice condition with only minor loss to the oranges and her blouse and one chip in the edge of the cart on the left side top (see photos #2 and #3).  Inside her left foot the letters "BTE SGDG" are stamped; these are the French Government patent marks of the period.  Overall the toy measures nearly 6 1/2" in length and 5 1/2" in height.  What a wonderful European toy with lots of character!  PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AND USE THE ENLARGE AND ZOOM FEATURES FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS WONDERFUL EARLY FRENCH WIND UP TOY.
