We are pleased to offer for your consideration an extremely rare and desirable late 1800's Ives Giant or Fat Boy Mechanical Dancer toy.  This wonderful early American toy is fresh to the market from an estate in eastern Pennsylvania.  As you will see in our last photo, the toy appears in the 1893 Ives Blakeslee & Williams Co. catalog.  The figure is constructed using a molded composition head and shoulders with wooden limbs and torso; the limbs are connected with wire hoops. The torso of the figure is wrapped with cotton batting to add volume to his mid section, hence the Fat Boy name, and he is much taller than the typical Ives dancing figures so this would explain the name Giant.  The toy works great and once it's wound and you lift the figure slightly to start the rapid and hilarious dancing action, he spins around kicking up his feet wildly.  He works wonderfully so be sure to watch the video above to see him in action!  This figure is dressed in exceptional condition, all original clothing and has all original paint on his face, legs and shoes.  The composite head does have a small spot of damage on the right side in the molded hair and also a tiny paint flake off the top of his head.  There is a hairline crack in his neck at his shirt collar area and a nick on the tip of his nose.  The box holding the all original clockwork is a beautifully constructed dovetail mahogany case; it is untouched, with the original surface being in wonderful condition.  The steel pin that the figure is supported by is a replacement.   We were informed by the owner's agent that the winding key is original to the toy.  Overall the toy measures about 12 1/2" tall when the figure is standing flat footed on the box; the figure alone is 9 1/4" tall.  The box measures 7 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" deep by 3 1/2"in height.  There are very few examples of this early American toy known to exist.  This Ives Giant / Fat Boy Dancer is in exceptional condition and it is most likely the finest example of this toy that you will ever find!  PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AND USE THE ENLARGE AND ZOOM FEATURES AS WELL AS WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF THIS RARE EARLY AMERICAN TOY.
